Omarunga Camp is located on the banks of the Kunene River, only a short walk upstream from the spectacular Epupa Falls. Hidden in the shade of the exotic MakalaniOmarunga Camp mappalmtrees, this little paradise is definitely one of Namibia's most secluded getaways. The lush vegetation along the majestic Kunene forms a sharp contrast with the surrounding Kaokoland.

Guests at Omarunga will be tempted to just relax and absorb the breathtaking scenery of the mountains on the Angolan side of the river and indulge themselves in the personal attention and European style hospitality of our managers, but there is a whole variety of activities awaiting them too! They can explore the spectrum of smaller waterfalls created by the approximate 800 meters wide river system. The more adventurous ones may want to cool off in one of the crocodile-safe pool just above the falls. In our off-road vehicle and in the accompaniment of our local translator, we offer excursions to the famous Himba who inhabit this area. Largely untouched by modern civilization the Ovahimba still live mach as they did centuries ago. We will take our guests to one of the typical small villages where they can experience the traditional way of the Himbas. They will get an inside view of how they herd and milk their cattle, build their houses and create their own jewellers. As Omarunga only caters for small groups a personal and undisturbed interaction with the Himba can be achieved.

Welcome to Omarunga Camp Namibia. On the banks of the Kunene River, only a short walk upstream from the spectacular Epupa Falls lies the Omarunga Camp.
Epupa Camp consists of nine luxury safari-style tents erected on stone platforms, each with two single beds and en-suite bathroom. All tents have electricity and mosquito netting and an outside, shaded balcony overlooking the tranquil Kunene River.
Large makalani palms overhead provide welcome shade from the midday sun. The adjacent dining room and lounge area also face the Kunene River, along with a lounging pool for cooling down from the midday heat, or enjoying a glass of sparkling wine while watching the sun set.
Epupa Camp works closely with the local community to provide them with access to development opportunities and direct benefits through tourism.
Epupa Camp has a sound ecological policy that includes removing all solid waste from the area and, whenever practical, recycling waste.

Accommodation
Five exclusive campsites under huge ana and makalani trees allow for a camping of tranquillity in a secluded, shady and quiet corner along the Kunene River. Our campsites combine the use of local material with pleasing attention to detail to allow for a most memorable stay in Namibia.
One of our camping guests rated our showers as the best in Namibia!
Each campsite has a river view and has private ablution facilities, consisting of a shower with warm & cold water, flush toilets and two hand basins, a barbeque area and a sink for dishes. The campsites are spacious to easily allow a group of 10 guests with 5 vehicles with off-road trailers or caravans.

Activities
Visit Himba Settlement
Join one of our local Himba guides as they take you through one of the small Himba villages in the region and learn how these fascinating nomadic people live, work, think and worship.
You will be allowed to take photographs and will also be taken for a private visit to a traditional Himba graveyard.

Sundowner
Every evening approximately 1 hour before sunset, we take you in our open safari vehicle to one of the hills overlooking the Epupa Falls for a sundowner as the surrounding desert landscape explodes in colors and fascinating shadows.

Rafting
For those of our guests who want more than just to gaze at the river, we offer half-day and full-day rafting or canoeing trips down the gentle Kunene River.
After taking you to our upriver launch station in our open safari vehicle, your qualified guide will provide you with all equipment needed and brief you on the day's expedition.

Bird Watching by Boat Trip
For bird lovers, we offer half-day river birding trips where our expert guide will point out some of our 238 different species that inhabit the Kunene region, including Cinderella Waxbill, Rufous-tailed Palm-Thrush (a permanent resident at our camp), Monteiro’s Hornbill, African Paradise-Flycatcher, Goliath Heron, African Fish-Eagle, various bee-eaters, kingfishers ranging from the Giant to the tiny Malachite Kingfisher, bulbuls, rollers (Purple, Lilac-breasted and European), Rosy Faced Lovebird, Golden, Spectacled and Lesser Masked-Weaver, and sunbirds, to name just a few.
This is as close to nature as you will get, and truly a soothing way to spend your morning or afternoon.

Visit Epupa Falls
Every day we offer a guided walk to Epupa Falls. The walk will take you past the calm waters before the dramatic falls where the Himba people often come to wash their clothes, bathe, or play in the water. Finally, you will be taken to the best lookouts of the falls further downstream.
The falls are a total of 700 meter long with a height of 35 meters, including rapids. Depending on the season, the falls have a typical flow from 20 (winter) to 800 m3 (summer) of water per second.

Hiking
Our guides can take you along the river or into the surrounding hills to explore the flora and fauna of the Kaokoland and enjoy stunning views of the Kunene snaking its way through the dry desert landscape.
During your hike you are likely to come across large Euphorbia bushes (whose poisonous milky-white latex has been used by the Himba for hunting for centuries), rose quartz crystals, mopane scrub, and the flat-topped umbrella thorn with the almost Mexican.
